NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference (GTC) is the world’s biggest and most important event on artificial intelligence and deep learning and provides attendees valuable training and insights to experience the cutting-edge innovation in the fields of autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, smart cities and more. Huai-Sheng Huang is Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Management at College of Management. He has supervised 5 undergraduates (Ting-Yi Tsai, Chia-Hsin Chung, Hsiang-Ting Huang, Yi-Chun Liu and Yi-An Lien) to complete a project titled ‘A Cross-Field VR Case Study to Treat Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder’. This team built a contextualized learning system with realistic interaction for clinical medical education to integrate virtual reality (VR) with occupational therapy knowledge, specifically for children with autism. This system supports a variety of scenes to facilitate training on children’s self-confidence, adaptability and social skills. Moreover, therapists will greatly benefit from this system by proving clients more training content beyond the traditional therapy room does. During the therapy sessions, therapists and children will focus on immersive training rather than spend time arranging situational virtual settings.

While undertaking the research, this interdisciplinary virtual reality team got great supports from lots of collaborative partners.
